Sini Malminiemi
Sini Malminiemi, MSc, environmental educator, nature and wilderness guide and Forest Mind instructor.

I’m the jack of all trades when it comes to nature based pedagogy, tourism or therapy. My background is in ecology and evolutionary biology studies. My studies have added to my deep relationship with nature which started developing already in the early childhood and which has given me the passion to protect our living environment. I see connecting with nature as the ultimate source of vitality, the source for person’s identity and a fundamental part of growing into a sustainable society. To achieve this globally we must connect with each other. For this reason I see the IFTDays as invaluable tradition. To be able to protect, you have to love. To be able to love, you have to connect.

llse Simoens
llse Simoens, MSc, researcher, herbalist, yoga-teacher and Shinrin-yoku guide.

In my work at the Research Institute for Nature and Forest in Brussels, I focus on the relation between Nature, health and society. As a yoga-teacher I focus on body-awareness via movement, breathing and meditation. During the time I lived in Sweden, I discovered nature in a new way.  Many, long, slow, lonely walks through the Swedish forests deepened my connection with both, myself and the forest. During the last IFTDays, I discovered a third dimension, the one of building a new sense of community when sharing your experiences with others during forest bathing sessions. These inspiring encounters with other practitioners, my previous readings and experiences, motivated me to co-found the Academy of Healing Nature, offering shinrin-yoku trainings and workshops in Belgium. To me, the forest is foremost a place of connection and so were the IFTDays.

BOS+ is a Flemish non-profit organisation dedicated to forest conservation, sustainable forest management, reforestation, afforestation and forest restoration, both in Flanders, Belgium, and worldwide. BOS+ brings and keeps forest issues high on the (political and public) agenda in Flanders. Cooperation with other organisations is part of our DNA: only by working together can awareness grow about forests and trees as vital elements for a liveable planet for all. BOS+ works on raising awareness and knowledge about the importance of forests and trees for a number of target groups and on implementing innovative approaches in the field. Forests play a crucial role in the preservation of biodiversity, as a sustainable source of material used in the circular economy, in our efforts against climate change, ánd for public health: the positive correlations between nature (experience) and our health and well-being are strong and manifold. It is with this in mind that we happily support the IFT days.
